In 1791, Olympe de Gouges wrote the pamphlet The Declaration of the Rights of Woman and of the Female Citizen in response to the French Revolution and The Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen. While her ideas of true equality were considered radical at the time, and were almost ignored, it paved the way for women’s freedom in France & around the world. As a result, de Gouges’ name will never be forgotten. While she may have never seen the fruits of her labor, her work planted the seeds for greater equality. Even your existence has a fighting chance to be remembered as long as you take steps to preserve it. Estate planning helps fulfill your wishes after you’re long gone and provides a strong foundation for a lasting legacy worthy of remembrance.
